On April 27, 1998 at 8pm writer Alice Walker performed at Lewisham Theatre (London), after a promised return during an earlier concert in the previous decade. Publisher and writer, GP Solomos (Zero Press, fiba and World Community Broadcasting) along with filmmaker David Somerset and film crew recorded the event in its entirety. Solomos' earlier film production, 'Justice Denied' followed the case of Mumia Abu Jamal, a death row prisoner, and grew out of a lifetime's work dedicated to promoting African American literature and human rights (Philadelphia's Move campaign in the 80's).

The original intention was to ask Alice Walker about her support for Mumia Abu Jamal. This was achieved and much more beside. An extract of Alice Walker's performance at large was edited into 'A letter to President Clinton' and outlines the case for withdrawing the punishing economic sanctions imposed by the US. against Cuba after the revolution. Cuba decided to pursue independence nearly 50 years ago and rise above its allotted role as an offshore gambling and prostitution resort, once known as 'the brothel of the USA'. The film premiered at the Festival of New Latin American Cinema later that year in Havana, December 1998. It inspired the revival of fiba-filmbank magazine for new cinema as an internet publication which continues to this day. (DS Editor fiba.)
