Release Notes.(written by jacopetti and Prosperi)

The idea for a film entitled ‘ Goodbye Uncle Tom’ grows out of the explo- sive reality of the racial problem today in America. The problem is at the centre of a much greater crisis: the economic and racial injustice that exists today in the United States not only involves 20 million negroes, but the whole social and religious structure of the West. If America – and by extension all of the white Christian West – fails to resolve this problem, there can never by any hope for peaceful co-exis- tence with the millions of people of different colour who populate the rest of the Earth. The negro problem in
America, therefore is no more or no less than the problem of the survival of the white race.

It seems unnecessary to dwell on something so obvious. As we said, the problem not only touches 20 million negroes: it involves the whites even more, and particularly those millions of white Americans who – if they were familiar with certain historical facts of the past two centuries – would have reason to suspect that they had some negro blood in their veins. As incredible as this statement may seem, at first glance, it is undeniable that integration in a physical sense has already been going on for some time.

Nevertheless this fact has never gained public acceptance. Instead racial integration has come to be thought of as a new problem – one to be solved with violence, granted that laws and compromises have not been enough. Le Roj Jones, one of the major negro writers of today, has written: ‘Not even the Chinese can be certain of their sovereignty as long as the white man is alive! Only one people on earth can cut the white man’s throat. It is the people who know him best – the ex slaves!

Since we have already spoken of ‘facts’, it should be pointed out that Goodbye Uncle Tom is based on a careful study, not only of past history but of todays ‘slavery’ as well. The facts of the situation are so un-expected and sensational that there is more than enough precious material for a film. Both for its
content and the way in which it would be shot, ‘Goodbye Uncle Tom’ would be a film at once original and hard hitting.

Certain episodes from the past history of slavery fuse so easily into the racial realities of today that it would be occasionally be difficult to distinguish between the pre-secessionist sequences and those of the present. For the historical passages, documentary techniques could be used to give the feeling that the camera was there at that actual moment. As for present day material, it goes without saying how much possibility is offered by the jumble of events of recent years. Placed next to one another and seen alternately, the historical and present day sequences would heighten the film’s significance while adding to its flavour. Such a film
would be alive, urgent, up to date and necessary.

TAKE A HIKE, UNCLE ERNIE

UGH! THIS SEEMS TO BE NOTHING BUT A CREEPY S&M SPECIALTY FETISH FILM. THE BIZARRE "HISTORY" LESSON THAT PADS IT OUT IS WACK. ITALY WAS THE ONLY INDUSTRIALIZED NATION TO EMERGE FROM WWII WITHOUT AT LEAST THE PRETENSE OF DEMOCRACY. THIS FILM WAS MADE IN A COUNTRY OTHER THAN THE USA.
RAN OPENLY FASCIST DICTATORSHIP!

Black Sexploitation!

Having just viewed "Goodbye Uncle Tom", I was surprised at the amount of nudity that is depicted in the film. I actually saw this film in its opening week in Times Square in New York City, 1972. Basically, it was the X rating and the subject of slavery that attracted me to the film. I had no real opinion of it at the time. There were a lot of bad movies about slavery out at the time. I just watched the video last week, 33 years later. This time I notice how much the camera stayed on the nubile bodies of the black slaves. There are so many bouncing breasts, hanging penises, and bare buttocks, that one would think you were watching a porn movie. On the extras that are featured on the DVD, there is more nudity. There seems to be a lot of naked black men being photographed "behind the scenes". And I do mean "behind"! Again, there are gratuitous shots of well-hung black men parading about while off camera. This being Haiti, 1970's, I was surprised at the men's cavalier attitude about their nudity and the fact that they were being filmed. After all, the majority of the naked slaves in the film were played by the ferocious "Ton Ton Macoutes", Duvalier's sadistic, and macho guards. Go figure! Anyway, it is obvious that the cameramen were enamored of all this black flesh and exploited every chance they got.

History of Slavery

Film is very over the top but explores a taboo subject in America, breeding farms people buying sex slaves, raping the slaves stuff that must have been rampant in those days. I would say the average American knows little or nothing about what actual slavery would really be like. This gives a little taste of what it would be like to be property.........

WAKE UP BLACK MAN!

THIS FILM MUST BE DUPLICATED, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, AND PASSED OUT, FOR FREE IN THE BLACK GHETTOS OF AMERIKKKA, SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, CHURCHES, MOSQUES, AND WHEREVER THE SO-CALLED NEGRO LIVES AND STRIVES. THIS IS A MUST-SEE FILM. IT SHOULD BE VIEWED IN ALL AMERICAN HISTORY CLASSES IN HIGH SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITIES. I HAVE NEVER WITNESS SUCH TRUTH IN STATEMENTS AND IMAGES OF THE PLIGHT OF THE AFRIKAN SLAVE. THE MASSES OF THE PEOPLE MUST SEE THIS. BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. X

Amen! to the comment before.

Historically accurate, despite the esthetics of the presentation and time. It is needed like medicine to a race sick America. The truth heals.

Goodbye Uncle Tom is a genius reality check 4 our race.

We may live in the white mans land & call it home, but in doing that we deny the essence of our being. We are a people descended of true soldiers, people who fought just to b allowed to breath of the white man and his god. For it is them who view god as a white god & it is by this god that they justified slavery. This world is so obviously not for the brown skin descendants of the creator and it is for us and his true caucasion children that he died.
Evil will claim back his children when good collects his.

MISUNDERSTOOD

This film is a reality check for blacks that should be shown everywhere. It saddens me that people only see the surface of the film -- the NUDITY, the black male members and the vulgar images. But the truth is, that was and still is the white man's obsession. Penile envy. That God IS WHITE and so long as he is WHITE, the white man rules. The film is careful to connect the dots!!! Pay close attention to the dialogue, else you'll be easily swayed by the images. Don't be fooled into thinking this film is an exploitation of black people -- it's the exact opposite!

Never ever seen anything like it! Wow! I have been watched literally 100s of exploited movies, franco's, "cannibal's", shockumentaries, etc, and I have NEVER seen anything like this. Tough to watch almost as bad as the Japanese guinea pig movies. The music goes well. The movie picks up about halfway through and gets more and more intense. Especially the end. Scary s**t!
